    MRO Update is a valuable resource for health care professionals who perform workplace drug and alcohol testing published by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). MRO Update is written and edited by Robert Swotinsky, MD, MPH, a certified MRO and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) who is board certified in occupational medicine. Dr. Swotinsky is affiliated with the University of Massachusetts after practicing clinical medicine at Reliant Medical Group in Worcester, Mass., where he chaired their occupational health department for 11 years. He authored The Medical Review Officer’s Manual, now in its 5th edition, is on the MROCC’s Examination Development Committee, and serves on the faculty for ACOEM’s MRO training courses.



    1. Read the newsletter (mailed to subscribers via U.S. mail). Specific articles in each issue are chosen to be part of the CME examination. These articles are indicated with a “CME Article” designation along with the title.
    2. Log in to the test. After reading the articles, subscribers who wish to earn CME must log in by clicking on the “MRO CME Login” button. The next screen will request you to enter your e-mail address and then your password.
    3. Complete the test and evaluation. Once logged in, you will be able to access the CME test. Complete the brief 3-5 question CME activity along with the 6-question Examination Evaluation, check your answers against the answer key, and click the “SUBMIT” button. For ABPM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credit, check the appropriate box before submitting a testing activity.

The testing activity can be e-mailed to you as a pdf whereupon you may print, complete, and return to ACOEM via fax or mail.
